A WHOLE NEW WORLD OF WORK EXPERIENCE WITH TAKEOVER RADIO

takeover Radio Children's Media Trust is now opening its doors to offer work experience. if you would like to find out more about our work experience programmes then please e-mail our manager at pq@takeoverradio.com or call 0116 2999615.

We have put together a wide variety of work experience programmes of such interest they have attracted work experience young people from abroad.

Takeover's Philosophy, when it comes to work experience, is to replicate the 'real' world of work. This means that while we endevour to tailor work experience packages to the individual's needs, you will also be asked to look at 'media' in the widest sense of the word.

"I liked doing the interviews and learning about the different equipment. All the people were really lovely and we were allowed to do quite a lot of things....I really got a good insight into the world of work."
Rosalind. Aged 14

With this in mind we have an application form you will be asked to fill in. You will also be invited to an 'informal' interview. This allows us to create the best work experience package for you. At the end of your placement we will be asked to fill in an evaluation form.

Throughout you work experience we will offer CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK.

Here is an extract from Bealey's work experience diary from her time at Takeover Radio Children's Media Trust:

Firstly was my interview! Well I was very nervous but at the same time I was very exited as I had never been in a radio station before. I met my manager for 2 weeks, Robin Webber-Jones, he greeted me and was very nice towards me, he made me feel welcome and my nerves began to fade away. I was given a guided tour of the studio etc and then went in to the "board room" for my verbal part of the interview. I then filled out a application form sheet as if I was really applying for a job. I found this very professional and found it very fun!

Day 1- Monday
When I first arrived 2 very nice girls who were also on their work experience greeted me. I made friends with them straight away!
The first task we were set to do was make a report for one of the presenters to read out on the air.

Day 2 - Tuesday

Today me and one of the girls started to make an advert on the new Retune magazine and we were told that if it was good enough then it would be played on the air. Also once again we made another daily report. Today was good and really enjoyed working there!

Day 4 - Thursday

Today I continued with the advert with one of the other girls and we were shown more about how to use cool edit. This was good because we used or new skills when making our advert.

Day 5 - Friday

Today we carried on with the feature to get more information on it, we went into town and vox popped people. This basically means that we asked people on the streets with a reporters recording kit and asked them what they thought about our feature ,Pop Idol, mainly including Simon Cowell. The results of this were then put o to mini disc and played back to us. I really enjoyed doing this and would love to do it as my actual job!

Day 6 - Monday

Today we adjusted the advert so now it is perfect and ready to go on the air.

Day 7 - Tuesday

Today we all chose a new feature and began to make it in to a report. I chose to do some local news on my college production Fame, I have now finished writing it I have just got to out it into cool edit! Can't wait.

Day 8 - Wednesday

Today we did our daily reports as usual for Sharon's show. And now I am just going to go on Cool edit to finish my new feature.

"I liked going to the meeting and found it very good and interesting. I liked meeting all the kidz doing their shows. I enjoyed doing all the interviews. I found it good learning more about the working lifestyle."
Rebecca. Aged 15

"Working on Cool Edit pro was excellent...why do I have to go back to school?"
Phillip. Aged 16
